Rajan Samuel

Managing Director , Habitat for Humanity India

Rajan Samuel is a strategic, international specialist in Microfinance and has vast experience of implementing and managing Economic Development and Microfinance programs in Asia, Africa, Eastern and Central Europe. In his experience spanning over three decades, Rajan Samuel has undertaken assignments in over 25 countries. His notable assignments include working for the World Bank for NRF, Habitat for Humanity International, Opportunity International, US AID, Danish International Development Agency, and British Retail Consortium (BRC), Khula Finance, DFID, IFAD, CARE, World Vision, DANIDA among others. Before joining Habitat for Humanity India, Rajan served as the housing finance manager with Habitat’s Asia-Pacific area office. Having a vast background in microfinance, Rajan Samuel has established 15 independent Microfinance institutions in 10 countries including Rural Banks, Cooperatives & Credit Unions and Non-Bank Finance Companies.

Hitesh Vaidya

India Country Manager, UN Habitat

Hitesh Vaidya has more than 20 years of experience in the field of urban management, urban governance including in its ambit project management, financial management, local government finance and capacity building. He has demonstrated past experience of working on: complex projects involving financial management reforms and improving transparency; urban policy issues; and has commitment to improve the situation of urban poor. Addressing the big picture is his strengths and through his various assignments, he has been able to help several urban local bodies to lay the groundwork in successfully implementing urban reforms, initiate urban infrastructure projects focusing on the poor including involving private sector in the delivery of urban services.

Kamal Singh

Executive Director of Global Compact Network India (GCNI)

Mr. Kamal Singh is currently leading as the CEO and is the Executive Director of Global Compact Network India (GCNI). He holds Post Graduate Diploma in Personnel Management and is also an Alumnus of JNU. Prior to joining GCNI, he was the Director General at National HRD Network. Known for his significant contribution in rejuvenating financial health of NHRDN and also introducing several new initiatives, he strengthened value proposition to its membership more than before. Prior to the this, he was Director, AIMA- A National Apex body of Management Profession in the country. During his long stint as Director in AIMA, he was instrumental for launching many initiatives that brought laurels to AIMA in building its profile and equity with its stakeholders. He is on the Board/Sub-Committees of several organizations/institutions including Association of Indian Management Schools (AIMS), Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), JIMS, Indian Institute of Finance (IIF), RKDF University, Bhopal, IILM University, Gurugram, BIMTECH, Greater Noida, Manav Rachna International University, Jaipuria Institute of Management (JIM), Jaipur and Independent Director on the board of Parsvnath Developers Ltd etc. including international NGOs such as Smile Train. Dr Kulwant Singh

Chairman & CEO, 3R Waste Foundation India

Dr. Kulwant Singh, an Indian national, presently Chairman and CEO of 3R WASTE Foundation (India) has been working in the urban sector for more than two decades. Until December 2015, he was the Regional Advisor, UN-Habitat spear heading Water for Asian Cities Programme for the Asia and the Pacific region since January 2004. Prior to that, he was the Executive Director, Human Settlement Management Institute of India from 1992-2003. 1971 batch officer of the Indian Economic Service, Dr. Singh is a visiting faculty of the UNESCO-IHE, Delft, the Netherlands as well as TERI University, New Delhi for the last many years. He is associated with several international bodies including WASTE, Netherlands, Collaborative Working Group for Solid Waste Management and 3R Forum of UNCRD. He has several books to his credit in the field of Urban Management and has published widely in internationally referred journals in water, sanitation and urban sector.

Dr Bhaskar Chatterjee

Executive Head, Indian Steel Corporation

Dr. Bhaskar Chatterjee is widely acclaimed as the Father of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in India. He was instrumental in framing and issuing the CSR guidelines for Public Sector Enterprises (PSEs) in April, 2010. Thereafter, he played a major role in the inclusion of Section 135 in the Indian Companies Act of 2013 and in the framing of the rules thereafter. As the DG & CEO of the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), he spearheaded the National Foundation for Corporate Social Responsibility (NFCSR). He has spoken and lectured on the subject of CSR and Sustainability at a very large number of National and International fora over the last five years and is acknowledged as the primary force for bringing a new paradigm to the realm of CSR and providing it with an innovative and strategic vision. Dr. Chatterjee has most recently authored his latest Book entitled “Sustainable Futures - Imperatives for Managing the Social Agenda”. In this book, Dr. Chatterjee shows how governments, corporates and civil society organizations can synergize their efforts to build a whole new paradigm of development that is sustainable, humanistic and inclusive. Dr. Chatterjee also currently heads a key Committee in the Bureau of Indian Standards which is framing the definitive Indian Standards for CSR.

Ravi Dadich

Member (Administration and Finance), DUSIB

Shri Ravi Dadhich is from 1996 batch of DANICS (Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Civil Service) and started his career as SDM, Preet Vihar,Delhi. Later he was posted in DDA as Dy. Director (Land Management) and OSD to Vice-Chairman, DDA. He has also worked as OSD to Lt. Governor, Delhi between 2005 to 2009. He has an experience of working as Director (Estates) in New Delhi Municipal Council and as Addl. Commissioner in Food and Supplies Department of Delhi Govt. Mr. Dadhich has also served in the remote island territories of Lakshadweep as Additional District Magistrate, Director (Panchayat), Director (Tourism) and CEO, District Panchayat between 2010 and 2012. Later he was Additional Secretary to Chief Minister, Delhi in 2014. He was Secretary to Minister (Transport), Delhi Govt. in 2015-16 and also handled the work of General Manager, Delhi Tourism. Presently, he is Member (Administration and Finance) in DUSIB (Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board) and was instrumental in finalizing Delhi Slum & JJ Rehabilitation and Relocation Policy, 2015 notified by Govt. in year 2017. He brings with himself 23 years of huge experience based on realistic ground situation and also the policy formulation in Urban Development sector of Delhi.

Jayashree Kurup

Head (Content & Research), Magic Bricks

Jayashree Kurup has over 30 years of experience in Content & Research and is a specialist in the skills and real estate domains. She has recently pioneered the first pure Digital Editorial Channel – Magic Bricks TV – which addresses Consumer and Industry issues on Real Estate. She is involved with a number of research initiatives and specialises in analysing research data to provide usable solutions to consumers. She also works with business in using industry dialogues with senior management. She has also worked on bringing about social change through Data-led communication on Real Estate and Governance. She has been a business journalist for over two decades with the Times of India, The Economic Times and The Financial Express. She writes extensively on real estate and infrastructure, city management, information technology, human resources and management. Jayashree forayed into research in 2002 as Head, Asia Pacific Research on real estate with Insignia Brooke, a global property consultancy, headquartered in New York. Here she analysed the real estate markets of India, China, Thailand, Philippines and Japan. She has been a champion of data based policy advocacy and worked with city, state and central government agencies to provide data and consumer insights on issues such as affordable housing and transaction costs in the housing sector to government agencies such as the National Housing Bank. She has also worked with industry associations such as the Confederation of Real Estate Associations of India (CREDAI) to assess the impact of policy such as the Section 80IB (10) on the Indian Housing Industry.

Vasudevan Suresh

Founder, Good Governance India Foundation

V Suresh is a Civil Engineer from Anna University (College of Engineering, Guindy, Chennai) with experience of over 54 years, in Housing, Urban Development, Infrastructure and Real Estate Sectors and Sustainable Development. He was former CMD HUDCO, with all-round growth in housing, innovative infrastructure development, use of appropriate technology applications in the built environment. He is member of Expert group for EIA- Infra II projects of Ministry of Environment and Forests and Climate change, Member of Advisory Council for Rebuild Kerala and Member of Kerala Government Committee for Housing and Habitat Policy. He is the Chairman of CII Indian Green Building Council [IGBC], Chairman of IGBC Green Cities Rating Committee, Chairman of BIS Housing Committee, Vice Chairman of National Building Code of India and Member of Smart Cities Committee of BIS. He has received 16 awards and recognitions and to cap it with the CIDC Industry Doyen Award 2011, IBC Life Time Achievement Award 2014 and CIA World Life Time Achievement Award 2017. He is President, Good Governance India Foundation for good urban governance initiatives for meeting the challenges of urbanization and making smart, green and vibrant cities through work on MUNICIPALIKA + CAPEx and IIPM and Urban News Digest.

KC Ranjani

Consultant, Habitat for Humanity India

K C Ranjani is a financial services and development specialist with over 25 years' experience in the MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) sector in India. Ranjani is currently serving as a Consultant - Subject Matter Expert (Economic Development Program) with Habitat for Humanity India. Previously, as Managing Director of Dia Vikas Capital Pvt. Ltd., India, a subsidiary of global microfinance and enterprise development impact investor – Opportunity International Australia, a member of the Opportunity International Network. Earlier, Ranjani held a senior management position with SIDBI (Small Industries Development Bank of India, the apex Bank for Financing and Development of the MSME sector in India), where she served as a core team member in creating SIDBI's pioneering microfinance program in close collaboration with DFID, UK and IFAD, Rome, resulting in the mainstreaming of the microfinance sector in India. Ranjani has served on the Boards of many of the leading MFIs in India. She holds a Master’s degree in Bank Management from the Cochin University of Science & Technology, Kochi.

Mr P Satish

Executive Director, SaDhan

Mr. P. Satish has taken over as Executive Director of Sa-Dhan on 26 March 2015. Earlier he was the Chief General Manager heading the Micro Credit Innovations Department of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). Prior to this he headed its Maharashtra Regional Office at Pune where many pioneering initiatives were undertaken by him including the Climate Change Adaptation Project, Agri-Advisory Project in tie-up with RML, Vidarbha model of Financial Inclusion with BC/BF etc. He also headed the Finance Department of NABARD at its Head Office and had worked in the area of rural infrastructure financing. As a Faculty Member at Bankers’ Institute of Rural Development (BIRD), he was instrumental in designing and conducting numerous training and capacity building programs in the field of microfinance and has the grassroots level experience, having worked as NABARD’s District Development Manager in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Initially, he was with Reserve Bank of India. Mr. Satish was a Director on the Board of Multi-Commodity Exchange of India Ltd (MCX) for three terms and was also on the Boards of MITCON Consultants Ltd. and NABARD Financial Services Ltd (NABFINS). He has published more than 75 research papers and articles in national and international journals and periodicals and authored/co-authored 6 books/working papers and chapters in 8 books in the fields of agricultural and rural finance and microfinance and presented papers/was an invited speaker at more than 50 national and international conferences and seminars, amongst which were those organized by University of Manchester, University of Queensland, University of Wisconsin, University of Kent, University of Agder, Berlin Technical University, University of California at Berkeley, University of Hohenheim, China Agricultural University, Burgundy Business School, German University of Cairo, UNDP, USAID, IFPRI, World Savings Banks Institute, Munich Re Foundation, Banking with the Poor Network, European Association of Agricultural Economics, Indian Society of Agricultural Economics, NIRD, IGIDR, etc.

Marije Broekhuijsen,

WASH specialist, UNICEF

Marije Broekhuijsen joined UNICEF India as a WASH specialist in April 2018 and supports the WASH Chief in the effective management of WASH programme in India. Broekhuijsen has 11 years’ experience working in development and emergency settings in the areas of water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH), disaster risk reduction, climate change, and community engagement. She has previously worked with the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and with International NGOs in the Philippines, Mexico and the Netherlands. Since the last 6.5 years she is working with UNICEF in the area of water, sanitation and hygiene in Ethiopia, South Sudan, Yemen and recently in India. Her work in India includes liaising with donors and acting as WASH technical resource to advice on water supply, institutional WASH, and climate resilient WASH initiatives, and she leads the UNICEF urban WASH programme. She is further engaged in fund management, monitoring and reporting of the UNICEF WASH programme. Broekhuijsen holds an Advanced Master’s degree in Policy and Practice in International Development from Radboud University, Netherlands (2009) and a M.Sc. in International Development Studies from Wageningen University & Research, Netherlands (2007).

Vikrant Mahajan

CEO, Sphere India

Vikrant is CEO, Sphere India, a National coalition of humanitarian agencies in India since 2007. He has been leading the collaboration for humanitarian coordination, collaborative advocacy and capacity sharing in India. He is also coordinating, a network of country level humanitarian/DRR Networks of South Asia known as SATHI (South Asia Together for Humanitarian Imperative) He comes with an interdisciplinary background in engineering, public administration, organisation development and humanitarian assistance. He has a rich experience of working with Governments, UN agencies, corporate and civil society organisations in diverse contexts and Inter Agency Operations. He has also been a commissioned Officer in Corps of Engineers, Indian Army for 9 years, where in as aid to civil authorities he has participated in different operations and exercises in complex humanitarian situations.

Uma Seth

Director and Team Lead CSR - Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI)

Uma Seth is a social development and communication expert and has been associated with FICCI since last 23 years. Ms Seth has expertise in CSR, transparency, ethical business practices, communication, research, stakeholder engagement, community development and sustainability. At FICCI she has initiated and implemented several path breaking initiatives.  She has initiated various projects for membership engagement, developed and maintained Corporate Communications, Uma has spear headed and implemented several CSR research, studies, developed several ICT for Development Projects. Uma is a post graduate in Sociology and Mass Communications from University of Delhi.

V K Menon

Founding Member - National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)

Prof Menon has 34 years of work experience, more than two decades on DRR, CCA and public policy analysis; worked in UNICEF India Country Office for 3 years; invited by PM Dr. Manmohan Singh to be a Founder Member of the National Disaster Management Authority NDMA in 2005 with the status of a Union Minister of State in Government of India; worked from 2005 to 2010 in NDMA; since 2010 working as a Consultant in Asia and Central America. He has represented India in several forums and conferences internationally, in countries like Norway, Turkey, Japan, the Philippines, and China. Prof Menon was one of the panelists in the 55th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women at the UN Headquarters, New York on the Special Panel on “Changing Climate, Changing Leadership” 2011. Along with that, he was a speaker at the 3rd global platform on disaster risk reduction at Geneva organized by UNISDR and the world reconstruction conference organized by the World Bank and GFDRR in 2011

Brig. R R Singh (Retd.)

Director General – NAREDCO

Postgraduate in Structural Engineering from IIT Khargpur and life member of Institution of Engineers (India), Indian Road Congress and Council of Arbitrators, Brig. R R Singh (Retd), served Indian Army in Corps of Engineers for more than 30 years and held many coveted appointments in Staff, Executive and Training Institutions including a tenure as Officer on Special Duty in Cabinet Secretariat, Government of India and Chief Engineer of a Zone. Presently, he is heading National Real Estate Development Council, an apex body of Real Estate Sector at National level, engaged in reforming and refining real estate industry, as its Director General. Brig RR Singh did his schooling from Uttar Pradesh Board, B.Sc. (Engg.) from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi and M.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. During his service with Army, he was responsible for construction, maintenance and operation of Army, Navy and Air Force installations at various locations in India, which included residential, administrative and technical complexes, hangers, runways, jetties and dock yards etc, besides services like roads, water, electricity, sewage and drainage etc. He did everything which came on his way with excellence and distinction and to the entire satisfaction of the users. He received many distinctions and appreciations during his long service of over 30 years with Army. During his exposure with real estate sector since 2002, as Director General, National Real Estate Development Council, he has been engaged with various policy reforms, at Central and State Govt. level, such as building bye-laws and development norms, project approvals and real estate regulations and taxations etc. Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act 2016, Affordable Housing Policy to provide housing to house less, Rental Housing Policy (in making) to encourage rental housing, Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, one unified Goods and Services Tax and recognition of Affordable Housing as infrastructure are some of the path breaking regulations/legislations introduced in last four years, which are distinct to make housing for all dream come true and bring transparency and accountability in real estate sector in the forefront.

HDr Shailesh Aggarwal

Executive Director – Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC)

Dr. Shailesh Kr. Agrawal is heading BMTPC an Apex Inter Ministerial organization under Ministry of Housing & Urban affairs, Government of India mandated to promote cost effective, environment friendly, energy efficient building materials and construction technologies from lab to land. One of the recent initiatives taken by Dr. Agrawal is to identify, evaluate and certify emerging construction systems for mass housing for faster, quality, safe and sustainable construction. Prior to this, he has served Central Building Research Institute, Roorkee, a constituent establishment of CSIR and a premier research institute involved in R&D in the area of building science and technology as a scientist for 20 years. He did his B.Tech in Civil Engineering securing Silver Medal, M.Tech from Indian Institute of Science in Structural Engineering; topping the Group and Ph.D from IIT, Roorkee. His area of research are quite wide which encompasses distressed buildings, non-destruction testing, earthquake engineering, strong motion array data and its analysis, retrofitting, structural analysis and modeling, prefab construction, emerging construction systems etc. Dr. Agrawal has more than 50 publications in national and international journals along with a few books & dissemination & training CDs. Dr. Agrawal has widely travelled in India as well as abroad and has been instrumental in several international projects. He has been felicitated several times namely (i) The Institution of Engineers (India), Roorkee Local Center for outstanding services to nation (ii) by Centre of Excellence in Disaster Mitigation and Management, IIT, Roorkee for significant contributions in Disaster Mitigation and Preparedness (iii) The Institution of Engineers (India) as Eminent Engineering Personality in recognition of his services to the society in the field of infrastructure construction related to Civil Engineering Society & (iv) as Outstanding Public Officer by Construction Industry Development Council.
